Abstract: Applying, obtaining and maintaining a patent is an expensive and time-consuming investment, especially when multiple jurisdictions are involved. So, a constant dilemma faced by a decision maker is “To patent or not to patent”.

Traditionally, decision makers have relied on experience and gut feeling to decide a strategy and achieve satisfactory ROI. Over the last decade there has been a paradigm shift which is fueled by advancement of technology and tools. Now a days, decision makers are relaying on heavily analytics to decide strategies for obtaining valuable patents.
